I think the dye molecule is much weaker in this brand than others. You get what you pay for.

Q: Is there an option to be able to buy single bottles of one color?

I don't know about a larger bottle BUT I've had MUCH better results with colored powders instead of the liquid. The liquid is very mild and won't give vivid colors like the powders.
