Jealous Devil All Natural Hardwood Lump Charcoal - 35LB

Didn’t expect to like having charcoal delivered this much, but now I can’t imagine going back. I’ve been using Jealous Devil for months now—across dozens of cooks—and it’s never let me down. Whether I’m firing up the offset smoker for brisket or just doing a quick weeknight grill, it burns hot, clean, and long.The 35lb bag lasts a good while, and the quality of the chunks is way better than what you usually find at big box stores. It’s all dense, natural hardwood—no filler, no chemical smell, no popping—and the smoke profile adds a subtle, clean flavor to everything from chicken to ribs. The bag design is sturdy and easy to store, too.Only downside? It sells out fast, so I’ve learned to order ahead and keep an extra bag on hand.Overall, this is premium charcoal that performs like it belongs in a pro kitchen. If you grill or smoke regularly, this stuff is absolutely worth stocking up on.

Great Charcoal. Heats well/Fast. Only takes a little to cook alot of food. Evenly heats. Large bag that lasts a while. Food tastes better.Quality!!!

This lump charcoal is so good for the price. Like almost all lump I have used, you will find the occasional bit of concrete or twine etc., but that seems to be par for the course. Just pick through it quickly before you light. It burns very well, isn't overly sparky, and lasts a good amount of time. Anything that doesn't burn in a cook, I just add to the next one.One critique is that there are often one or two very large pieces in the bag. I can feed it to the WSM, but some wouldn't fit into a smaller grill or slow-n-sear type setup.

I dig it.So far, I've found a decent amount of large pieces with mostly medium pieces (about 2-3" long x 1-2" wide) throughout the paper bag.Let me reiterate the paper bag. Jersey Devil's description all over this page says they store their charcoal in resealable plastic bags. While I appreciate that paper is recyclable and compostable (which is something that I do and support wholeheartedly), I don't appreciate false/misleading advertising.JD needs to advertise that they're still shipping out product stored in paper bags WITHOUT the ability to reseal. Folks are buying this charcoal thinking they can store this outside and keep moisture from seeping in. ALL LIES.. at least in my case.Thankfully, I've got a storage shed and I can keep this ginormous bag of charcoal there.Re: the burn rate -- not bad so far. I used about 6-7 large pieces and it burned at around 250 for 6 hours. Impressive. No off taste, and I actually liked that the smoke profile was low; this allowed me to add other wood chunks to add flavor. Minimal ash.Super expensive, but smells and tastes a trillion times better than what I was using before in my kamado grill.

This is a great charcoal. The flavor is there, it lights quickly and it burns for a really long time. The smell is clean and I'll probably buy this charcoal from now on

The bag is humongous, and the pieces are different sizes. I could also smell a little flammable ingredient when the smokes first started to burn, but it went away quickly. It gave excellent flavor, has a good burn time and I can go through the bag and pick different sizes now that I’m getting used to it. This may actually be a very good product.

I have tried lump charcoals from various parts of the world. After trying all that I could find, this is all that I use for grass-fed steaks for the past few years. It burns the hottest and is clean; no rocks, pallets, etc. like I found in some American sources. It also appears to be sustainable.Lamb is better w/ mesquite for slower cooking.

Lasts long. Can make today’s supper, then throw on more for tomorrow’s supper. Perfect burn.
