Great unit

Great unit. We have a couple of these, they work great, fairly easy to install if you have some basic carpentry skills. Have your AC guy out to flush the unit and your good to go. If I was building new this is all I would install.

Great unit and easy to install!!

My shop is about 460sqft and an old (40's) detached garage and wasn't insulated. In Seattle, this mean I could really only work there for about 3 months in the spring and 3 months in the fall. It also meant my mill, lathe welder and other machinery and my precision measuring tools had to be coated in protectant to stop the flash rust and corrosion from condensation when temp rise quickly from below freezing. I insulated with R13 in my 4in thick walls and then installed the 12k BTU unit. So far this winter I have had the unit set to minimum heat setting (62*) and 'ECO' setting and the temps inside remain above 60*! We didn't see high temps in the fall after I had finished insulating so, I can't tell how it will be in the summer but so far I'm VERY satisfied.Shipping was fast and predictable. The few things I learned:Aside from the fear of messing something up, the instructions are very good. There are also YT videos to show others doing the installs. I tend to overthink so just following instructions and doing a little research helped. It wasn't clear whether a vacuum was required so I bought a cheap vacuum pump and that worked perfectly. Some say you don't need this. I figured better safe than sorry. It also helps detect if I had a leak so, it seemed like cheap insurance.I mounted mine on the wall and when the compressor unit comes on it creates some vibration. I can hear it inside our house but my wife - who can hear rabbits fart in our yard - says she can't hear it so, maybe it's not as bad as I think.I cut my gas lines so they were as short as possible given the placement of the interior and exterior units so moving the exterior unit to the ground will be a bit of a pain but I will do that.I installed the hose/wire cover to pretty up the install a bit. Plan on making a few trips to the hardware store to get conduit and other fittings etc. I'm very particular about the looks of the install (well, my wife is really and I have to meet her standards) so I took a lot of time to integrate the unit into the existing infrastructure and electrical.I wish I'd done this years ago! Easy peasy!

Many issues....But they are fixed now.

The system works great, customer support was great in troubleshooting the issue I was having and then sending the replacement part to get the system working. Thank You Pioneer.

No freon inside unit!

My Pioneer mini-split arrived on time and undamaged. I have installed several mini-split units over the last several years and have all of the proper tools for doing so. This unit was installed by the manufacturers instructions, but when I released the freon, the condenser was empty. No refrigerant inside the unit. When I contacted Pioneer, they were of no help and in fact their warranty states "it does not cover lost refrigerant". Thankfully, Jacks Small Engines authorised my return and refunded all of my money! I highly recommend Jacks Small Engines, but I will not purchase another Pioneer mini-split.

Outstanding performance

I installed this myself. I had not considered a mini split because I had been told that they didn't produce heat when outside temps were below 40 F. I still checked on them occasionally because I felt the technology was worthy of monitoring. To my surprise some mini splits now work in below zero temps. It's been running now for 10 days, several mornings in the upper 20s F. The upstairs is 700 sq ft and the 12,000 btu model is doing at admirable job of keeping most of the house comfortable at 72 F. There are a few areas that are a little cool but still acceptably warm because the floor plan lends itself more to a ducted than ductless system. A bonus, we haven't used the gas furnace since we turned this unit on. It's only ten days so I don't have a large enough data set to be precise but so far the electricity consumption appears to be up about 5 to 10%.

Impressed so far, but install was a challenge

Installed a 12k unit recently. Other than the vacuum line, it was simple and straightforward. The vacuum service port was the problem area, as a novice I was unaware that r134a and r410a fittings are sized differently. The worst time to find this out is on a Saturday in the middle of nowhere with the nearest town with a glimmer of hope of finding a 1/4" to 5/8" adaptor is 45 minutes away. It would be nice to either mention this clearly in the install manual or better yet include one in the box, as they are cheap but not easily locally sourced. After getting over that hurdle and getting rhe unit started, it worked great off a Growatt 3000 watt charge inverter system. The slow ramp up gave no issues with overloading the inverter or 48v battery system, and pumped out plenty of heat on a cool afternoon. Looking forward to cooling with it too as there were many days over 100F this past summer.Update May 2024: Been working well, but uses a good amount of power when working with a small solar system. My biggest complaint is the remote, why did Pioneer choose IR instead of RF? You really have to be aiming right at the unit to get it to respond from 10 feet away with no obstacles.

Working great!

We got this mini split for our 400 sq ft cabin, we have had it for almost a year now and so far it has been working great! The heating ability is really being tested this week, Wisconsin winter and -18. I don’t want to jinx myself but so far it’s been holding up! We did have it professionally installed. Definitely worth the price!
