5 stars for the price alone... quality and efficacy not yet discernible

Have had great success with CLA in the past, but cost is normally prohibitive and results depend on long-term use.14 years ago, I was managing a famous chain retail "nutrition" store, and being a freshly graduated college student with my handy-dandy Bachelor's in complementary medicine in hand, I dedicated countless hours to studying and learning about any supplements in that store that I wasn't already familiar with. This paid off for me, in many ways: I became the go-to girl for other managers in the region, getting calls all the time for off-the-wall requests or in-depth information requests that customers at other stores had presented them with; eventually, my store gained a reputation for being the store to go to where you would NOT get pressured to buy something you didn't want, nor would you get false or misleading information about any product; The chain of command noticed, and I received raises and promotions faster than any other manager anyone had heard about - and the extra responsibilities that go along with raises; and most important for long term gain, I learned a LOT about what works and what doesn't when it comes to weight (loss or gain). At that time, I was so impressed with the research just coming to light about this fatty acid pretty much absent from modern American diets, and posited as the main reason obesity rates have risen so drastically since the Industrial Revolution and the beginning of the modern era. The more I read, the more I was eager to try it for myself - I had given up ever being thin again, I had tried just about everything under the sun (from unassisted starvation to prescriptions that should have never been FDA approved to fad diets to anything else anyone ever swore worked) all to no avail... I couldn't (and still can't) even lose a single pound even with horrible stomach flus that last a week... My body likes this weight for some reason and is more stubborn than even my mind. But I tried CLA, and reading scientific reports regarding the absolute lack of results, regardless of dosage or any other variable, until after at least 6 weeks of daily supplementation, I knew that this EFA, if it did indeed ever work, was going to cost me a pretty penny before I even had a chance of finding out. But I committed, and to my delight, after 6 weeks of diligently taking the dosage most commonly recommended for my weight and seeing no difference, between week 6 and week 5 I lost an entire pants size, seemingly overnight. As fate would have it, just after week 7 I severed the AC ligament in my knee, and was misdiagnosed and therefore given the wrong treatment (bed-rest) for that injury. After spending everything I had saved on a TCM (traditional Chinese Medicine) doctor, and not being able to work for an extended period of time, I had to discontinue the CLA once the bottle I had ran out. I always knew I would try again when I could afford it, but life has a funny way of laughing at you when you say "when I can afford it".So, it's been 13 years, of always having that hope in the back of my mind that when I could afford it, CLA might actually work again for me, and for longer if the stars aligned just right and the wind blew from the right direction...I saw this brand while looking for something else, and saw the price for so many, and decided that if it meant ramen for a week or 2 a month, then so be it, I would sacrifice to get these.Have just been taking them for 2 days, so will have to edit this review once I get to the 6 week mark and beyond, but wanted to share an observation that may be typical of this brand, or may be just a one-time thing with the batch I got... The gel-caps are stiff and dry. I have never used any product in a gel-cap where they had this texture. It makes them just slightly more difficult to get down - have to leave them in mouth with fluid for about 10 seconds to lubricate them before being able to get them down, and this isn't usual for me.Hopefully that small issue with the texture (quality? thickness?) of the gel-caps used is not an indication of the efficacy of the oil inside, as the price is simply unbeatable, especially for a product I already sure will be repurchased.

Best CLA on Amazon

Alright you Amazon fitness nuts, I'm going to start this review with a bit of a disclaimer. CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) is a bit of an anomaly within the supplement community. The research behind it isn't all there, and many studies done have been on animals not humans, so the ability to translate that in terms of our genetics is a little tough. I use this supplement anyway and will continue to use it; below is why. If you want to get right to what I think of the product, skip ahead to where it says "ACTUAL PRODUCT".CLA is a natural fatty acid that is found in dairy products and red meats. So while yes, you can find it without having to supplement it, supplementing with CLA increases the availability. This is especially helpful because in order to maximize the benefits of CLA, which I will get to in a moment, 3-6 grams have to be taken daily. Now personally I think 6 is overkill, and three of these puppies once a day for a 3 g total will last over 3 months which is fantastic. Even if you decided to take four a day, that's still a much longer time-span than most bottles will run.Studies on CLA from the sources I myself trust have shown that over long-term, it reduces body fat percentage and prevents weight gain. It also preserves muscle mass by limiting the catabolic effect on muscle proteins AKA the body won't break down muscle tissue as easily for a source of energy. Sounds pretty awesome right? Well let's relax for a moment. The effects aren't anything crazy CLA is no miracle pill, but given enough time that's still something. Remember above where I said I take CLA and will continue to do so? Here's why. CLA ties in very well with my style of weight lifting and nutrition. I am a "clean bulker". This means I am constantly adding slow, lean muscle mass while trying to keep my body fat percentage relatively constant or in small fluctuation. It's much slower, but I look good all year-round instead of the side effects that come from a traditional bulk. If CLA is going to have any benefit whatsoever to slowly reduce body fat, preventing weight gain, and minimizing the damage to my muscles am I going to take it? Uh, yeah! Plus two, if what I am doing is working, why fix it? Frankly, and let's assume worst case here, I'm paying for the placebo effect.ACTUAL PRODUCT: BulkSupplements, first off, probably has the best deal on CLA you will find on the internet let alone Amazon. 300 soft-gels for 25 bucks is a fantastic deal. Many bottles are about that price point for 30 days worth of pills so ordering in bulk quantity is the way to go. Also, Amazon Prime with these guys? Can this get any better? I got my product incredible quickly so a than you to both Amazon and BulkSupplements for getting me a whopping amount of CLA in a jiffy! The soft-gels arrived in a silver seal bag just like the pictures on their other products with the nutrition information and directions right on the front. BulkSupplements has pretty minimalist packaging but you know what who cares. I don't need it to be all flashy and cool to look at I need the product to be good. The soft-gels were shipped very quickly because of Amazon Prime but they did a great job packaging them. There's no need to go nuts really the soft-gels aren't anything that will suffer damage in transit really unless someone decides to curb stomp the box.The soft-gels themselves are a transparent, yellow tinted gel about the size of your standard fish oil pill. In fact I am betting some people may not want to place these in the same location as their fish oils in, say, a pill box as I could see how they might be mistaken. One thing I do notice, taking a step back to the nutrition information, it says "Conjugated Linoleic Acid Oil 1589 mg". Now, does this mean each soft-gel is OVER the 1,000 mg title because if so that'd be just nuts. I plan on shooting BulkSupplements an e-mail to ask what's up with that. Typically CLA is derived from Safflower Oil, so not seeing that on there makes me raise an eyebrow but BulkSupplements certainly doesn't seem like they're trying to hide anything so I'm not really bothered by this.To wrap up my novel these soft-gels are great. I haven't noticed any drastic changes in my physique but that's kind of the point. These are supposed to keep my fat levels where they are so as long as I start putting on the muscle, these are doing their job. I highly recommend CLA from this company. I will be doing business with BulkSupplements again for sure!
