Read THIS review 1st for how to not let your iron die on you
I don't usually write product reviews but after my experiences with this particular iron, I just had to.1st of all, reading the reviews posted here about their irons malfunctioning or not working at all anymore, let me tell you a few guidelines that if NOT followed, will result in an AWFUL experience for you, too:1. DON'T unplug the iron UNTIL you turn down the steam to its minimum AS WELL AS its setting (both to zero).2. When finished, DON'T place it face down; always face-up (this is also how it should be stored).3. If you are going to store it, DON'T let there be any water in it.4. DON'T overflow the water for the steam (keep it under the maximum mark).5. DON'T neglect self-cleaning it. You should clean it at least every 5 weeks (I do) and as described in the manual(plug in --> fill with water --> *holding face down over sink* press self-clean button --> wait until ALL water is steamed out --> (optional) clean soleplate with ear swabs and/or moist towelettes).2nd of all, I've used many many irons in my life, and I can tell you from first-hand experience that almost all of them stopped working as good as first JUST because I didn't follow the guidelines mentioned above. Also, I can say that among all the irons I've tried, I loved this one the most. Seriously, even after I moved, I would not settle with any other iron than this one. The steam (vertically) actually unwrinkles; the soleplate also; the edges of the soleplate are very conveniently adequate to fit the seams of many of my garments; the steam, oh the steam, seriously, don't iron without it (I even use it on polyester); and the soleplate is ceramic (meaning it's a LOT more nonstick than the leading stainless steel irons <-- avoid these).

It’s just like my old one.

Amazing steam functions, and ironing results but reliability has been an issue.
I've tried nearly every brand of Iron out there, and when it comes to continuous steaming and burst steaming, this iron rules! The unique soleplate shape and the balance of the iron are also right up there with the best. Very modest pricing. I gave it four stars. For its functionality it could take home ten stars, but reliability is lacking. My first purchase of this iron was a slightly upscale version. The same as this model, save for an electronic control panel which added about ten bucks to the deal. It was dead within six months, the electronic panel refusing to glow causing no heat to be forthcoming.Bought a second one, identical except for having the manual dial, thinking the electronic controls might be the weak point. Again got about six months use before I had a problem. The power light would come on, but the iron would not heat, the light would start flashing along with the beep which warns of a tip-over or time-out.Disappointed, but still not wanting to lose the magnificent steamability of the Durathon irons, I ordered an exact replacement. Again, I'm steaming away, making quick work of a task nobody loves. Why not have the iron repaired or replaced through the warranty? Because the Hamilton Beach warranty is a joke. Maybe more accurately an insult to the concept of the relationship between a manufacturer and their customers. Hamilton Beach requires the customer to pay shipping to and from their facility. On a $24 item that makes no sense. When as low-tech an item as an iron cannot be manufactured to last at least the one year term of the warranty, maybe the manufacturer should be required to handle the problem at no charge door-to-door. Fun side note: on four panels on the box this iron comes in HB proclaims the 10 year warranty on the soleplate. Good to know they have concentrated their longevity advances on the soleplate of an iron that won't heat. R & D might be better spent in other areas. In the mean time I will no longer fret about how long the current iron will work. When it dies, I'll order a bright shiny new one, and keep on steaming. I know that's probably no incentive for HB to up their quality, but all I honestly care about at this point is an iron that can iron. $4 a month for that service works for me. Wonder if this is an item Amazon could put on the "subscribe and save" auto-ship program. Then every six months a new one would appear at my door.

A solid iron, and really good price.
I really like this iron. The price for this iron is right on spot. Not very expensive, but more expensive than the cheap crap irons. You can see the difference. Trust me. Don't buy a cheap 15 dollars or less iron. All they do is suck and break. My last iron starting leaking, so we had to get rid of it. I bought this iron after looking at some of the reviews. This iron is awesome. A couple things to note that make this iron stand out. One is it gets hot very quick. I can iron with this thing, after about 2 mins of waiting. This helps me because I tend to iron my clothes in the morning, and I don't have much time. Another positive, the iron does not use much water at all when in use. You do not have to replace the water that often. It is great, my last iron was terrible with the water. I barely replace the water with this thing. One thing to note is make sure to clean the iron. If you don't clean iron's you tend to run into problems. No matter what iron you use, you have to clean it. I clean this iron about once every 2 weeks or so. It does the trick.

EXCELLENT IRON at an extremely low price. High end features and performance - GET THIS IRON
2nd Update: My first iron finally bit the dust after falling off iron board numerous times. It still worked, but was having trouble heating up. However, since I had another duplicate iron, I just replaced it without hesitation. TRUST ME ON THIS - the Durathon iron is one of the lowest priced irons anywhere and is THE BEST IRON on Amazon. It has a super non-stick sole plate (burned starch cleans up with just water and rough terry towel), its full sized mega steam performance and the self clean button that will actually clean out every last steam vent - makes this iron the bestAnyone who has owned this iron, knows how well it works and what a fantastic deal this its. Average life for an iron is 1-2 years (depending on how heavy the use) and how many times you drop it. Since the cost is so low, I always have two irons on hand so I never get caught without an iron.
