Only Pomade I'll Use!
First of all, if you are used to drugstore hair products and you want to try something new that provides a strong hold, a light shine and a great fragrance, then look no further. Imperial Classic Pomade is not only all of things, but it washes out super easy and hasn't left any buildup on my scalp. The fragrance is very subtle but pleasant and leans towards a sweeter, almost melon-y smell. Fans of vanilla, bourbon and sandalwood fragranced pomade will not appreciate this, but again, it's so subtle and the only person who gets close enough to me to smell my hair on a regular basis loves the smell, so much so that she has started using it as a finishing product or when she needs to tame unrulies.Another benefit for me is that it is water-based and not petroleum wax, or "clay". -Less stress on the follicles means better hair health over time.I've used many of Imperial's products and although I've been satisfied with all of them, this is the hair product that hasn't left my grooming kit since I started using it more than 10 years ago.

Clean, strong hold, easy to wash or reactivate
I've always had blonde, thin Scandinavian hair which is often hard to style if I don't use thick wax or strong hard gel. This stuff has been a great in-between.I rub a little in between my palms fast and hard to heat it up and activate it. Then work it into the hair from the roots. I use a thick comb to style it back neatly out of my face, and that's it.If it dries up a little too hard like gel, I can run my fingers through it a little to soften it up and it still holds although a bit more loosely and natural-looking.(Gross man warning!) If I leave it in a bit too long (or even overnight while I sleep) and it starts losing its shape, I'll run some wet fingers through my hair and it comes back to life. It gets slightly more disheveled each time, so it doesn't work forever, but still does wonders in a pinch!

Good Pomade
Pomade that feels more like gel. Very similar in consistency and strength to Suavecito, but this had a more neutral scent and was cheaper per ounce. Add a little water for some shine. Good for stubborn Asian hair.

Good for those with fine hair
There are people who live and breathe pomades and take pride in knowing a lot about them. That person is not me. However, I have been scouring the internet for recommendations on a pomade with low shine and a strong hold and was directed to this pomade by Imperial Barber and alternatively to Baxter of California Clay Pomade (which is a tiny fraction of the size and about the same price). I have fine hair and several mean cowlicks so I need something that is going to be strong without weighing my hair down. I generally keep my hair in a messy, spikey type of style so I don't want something that keeps my head looking wet. I also have been known to break out on my forehead from other pomades so I'm always a bit hesitant trying new stuff. I've been using Got 2b Glued on a regular basis until this point but it lives up to it's name and has the same effect as if you put white glue in your hair... and that's great for keeping things in place but not so great for looking natural.Imperial Barber Classic Pomade is supposed to have a strong hold and comes in a very large 6 oz container. The packaging is very appealing and fits with the rest of my man grooming products. The scent is as others have described - like a watermellon jolly rancher - and I find it very appealing and light, not something people will likely notice. The pomade itself is colorless and has an odd texture. It is very much unlike any other pomade I've used in the past. At first I was a tad put off by the appearance and feel of it but in the end it is really irrelevant to its effectiveness. The Classic Pomade works perfectly well once you figure out the right way to put it on. Your hair has to be just the right amount of wet/dry to get it to work right. I'm still figuring it out but when I do it right, I can generally get a good hold for the entire day. When I get it wrong, well, let's just say that I basically have to start over. I disagree that this is a "strong hold" product. I think it fits more on the medium hold spectrum. The nice thing about this pomade is that, as a water-based product, you can restyle your hair throughout the day and still get hold as long as you don't completely wash it out.Overall I'd say it is a great pomade, especially considering it is a fraction of the cost of others. It's an especially good choice for those who want a pomade with low-shine.
