Whimsical designs suitable for all levels of experience!

I am a fan of Kathy Schmitz' work. I subscribe to her monthly, small embroidery club and had been eyeing this book for some time. It's so much fun! I have already made two of the projects. The embroidery techniques are fairly basic and I feel that this book would be appropriate for embroidery beginners as well as for those who are experienced. Delightful whimsey and sweet designs make this book a keeper for me. I just ordered her latest book ....

Not all that exciting

I hate to say it but I don't care much for this book even though I'm a Kathy Schmitz fan.If you like stitching projects that look like something your grandmother (in her early stitching days) may have made, then it is likely that you will like this book. Amazon's pictures of the book's projects depicts most of the projects. There are two bags, the Bloom Bag which measures 11.5" x 9.5" (I may use the stitchery on a pillow) and Cheery Cherries Tiny Tote which is 5" x 6". There are a couple needle keeps and a 3" x 2.75" pin cushion. There is a pillow (shown on the book's cover), a table runner and a journal cover. There's a tea towel (28" x28") that has a bird perched on a tea cup and there are four different cup designs (okay, this one is actually really cute and looks more like what I expect from Kathy's stitchery designs). There is also a wrist cuff if you are into wearing your stitched projects. Most projects carry through with the same or very similar look of the pillow on the book's cover. The embroidery keys that identify the embroidery stitches used in each project are easy to use. The Embroidery Basics pages are where I feel they should always be...at the back of the book. That way what sells books, the designs, are up front. The floss reference includes DMC and The Gentle Art Floss. The embroidery stitches examples are large and even though they don't have the A, B, C style, they are clear enough to see how you both begin the stitch and continue.

A Great Hand Embroidery Book

Beautiful book, the drawings and patterns are wonderful. You can make the projects as illustrated or in whatever way adapts to your projects. All the designs are not simplistic, but have simplicity in their beauty. Also the directions, stitches and floss information is excellent. I recommend this book, I am so glad I found it on Amazon. I have several embroidery books and this one is an awesome addition to my selection.

A real stitchery treasure

Wonderful book for modern stitchers who would like to preserve a vintage mood. Well written, beautifully illustrated, and clearly explained. Highly recommended for either novice or experienced stitchers looking for something unique and special.

A beautiful book

I love the projects in this book and can't wait to make some of them for myself and friends. I have made many of Kathy Schmitz's patterns and found them to be accurate and lots of fun. I'm a big fan of handwork and embroidery is a great take-along craft.

So much charm!

This book is filled with charming projects. I found I want to make every project in it but I also have ideas for additional projects using the designs. I find it very soothing to sit and stitch.
